Title: 'What Good Food / you are what you eat'
Name: Hsuan Liu
Material: Installation
My work is about the poisonous chemicals inserted within the food in Taiwan. I focus on the food packages in particular. I have three parts to this work; firstly I photograph decomposing food, which is past its sell by date. Food has a direct impact; the consummation of food to one's body gives it an animalistic reference. As society says; "You're what you eat." I create my own projects involving fake food in jars with the use of Silicon, creating a connection between the unknown chemicals within food that is consumed, to my own representation of food that is in fact false. The organic quality and beautiful food in the world is misconstrued through the use of packaging, and with its concealment hides the truth. Multimedia is the most effective form of information delivery; however, it has its inherent drawbacks – it can mislead people since people normally does not confirm or double-check the information they received (e.g. daily news). I present my work, installation, by using videos, to rise this problem (i.e. the misleading of multimedia).
In this show, I will have four televisions and two projectors. Four televisions play movements of a part of human body, repeatedly, to represent the repeat of our daily life. Food is essential for maintaining our life, but the chemicals in non-organic food will cause body pain and leave toxin in the body. The two projectors will be played in a dark room containing a table, a screen, a chair, and plates. The food corruption process will be projected on the plates. However, this process is embellished. So, audiences will not be able to feel the ugly part (e.g. the strong smell) of food corruption. This is the way I use to represent the misleading of multimedia.
